Fiction Genres Pt. 2

The second genre I will be covering is referred to as "chick-lit". Chick-Lit came into being about 15 years ago and refers to any book dealing with issues that directly involve women. These books are usually on the lighter side and are often humorous. Here are some of the most popular authors.

Sophie Kinsella
Marian Keyes
Jane Green
Mary Kay Andrews
Jennifer Weiner
Emily Giffin
Meg Cabot (for both adults and teens)

"Creating a Fresh Look with Familiar Pieces"

This Thursday, May 17th at 7pm, the Rowley Library is hosting a program titled "Creating a Fresh Look with Familiar Pieces". Home stager and decorator Kerri Durkee of Functional Home Designs will be here to teach us how to take our old items and change them into something new and useful. This is a great way to learn how to reuse your unwanted items, save money and be green. Here are some books to check out that will also be helpful.

Fiction Genres

One of the most common jobs for librarians is to give book suggestions to patrons. The patrons let us know what type of book they usually prefer and we try our best to find a title that we think they will enjoy. Over the following few weeks I will post the most popular book genres, what defines that genre, and authors and/or titles that fit within each one. First up is Action/Adventure.

Action/Adventure novels are stories that exist outside of our everyday lives. The events that occur are usually extraordinary, full of physical action, and the events move at a very fast pace. The most famous action novels are probably the James Bond series, but here are some other authors that fit into this category.

Clive Cussler
James Rollins
Matthew Reilly
Stephen Coonts
Brad Thor
