Fascinating collection of labor posters on display at the Rowley Public Library

On display at the Rowley Public Library through August 29 is a unique collection of international labor posters. The exhibit, called "The 99% Fight Back" comprises posters in English and Spanish organized by Stephen Lewis of SEIU Local 509, in a project that is supported in part by grants from the Southeastern MA Central Labor Council and the Boston Carmen's Union and Roofers Local 3.

Posters have long been a means for labor unions to broadcast their messages, and those who collect these posters often prize them for their historical value and design elements alike. As the posters showcased in Rowley prove, some of the posters rely merely on color and typeface to make their messages noticeable, while others utilize further design elements.

The exhibit may be viewed during hours when the Rowley Public Library is open: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., Tuesdays from 2 - 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The library, which is located at 141 Main Street in Rowley, is fully accessible. For further information, call 978-948-2850.
